Thinking of Organising a Reunion for your class/year/discipline area/special interest group?

Why organise a Reunion?

Reunions are a great way for QUT Alumni to meet and re-establish links with old friends. Reunions are generally initiated and organised by a group of graudates who are interested in celebrating milestones, such as 20 years since graduation.

QUT Faculties, Schools and the Alumni Office also organise reunions from time to time to celebrate major anniversaries and other achievements, such as the Golden Graduates Reunion (50+ years since graduation), launch of a Faculty/School Chapter and 20 Years since the launch of the Law Faculty.

I am a QUT Alumnus, what support can the University give me in organising my reunion?

The Alumni Office can assist you in a number of ways in organising your reunion, we can assist:

  • Advertising your reunion on the Web, monthly alumni e-newletter and special e-mails to your reunion invitees.
  • Assist in linking you with on-campus venues in which to hold your reunions
  • Provide advice in regards to reunion planning
  • Mail a reunion invitiation to your constituency (due to privacy laws, we can only make the personal details of alumni availalbe to a reunion organiser/s under a confidentiality agreement)
  • Provide some signage and brochures
  • Provide a lucky door prize (QUT Memorabilia)

What do Reunion Organisers need to provide to QUT?

  • Details of Reunion Event, including reunion organiser/s
  • Provide any updated personal or business contact details received
  • Provide an invitation for an Alumni Office Representative to attend
  • Provide list of attendees to the reunion

Getting started on planning your reunion

Reunion organiser/s need to "own" the event, as they will undertake a majority of the work. The Alumni Office can support the Reunion as outlined above, but the main responsibility for a successful reunion remains with the reunion organiser/s. Some things to consider:

  • Type of reunion to be held (Dinner, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Family BBQ, Catered or Self-Catered, etc)
  • Date, Time and Venue (ensure you leave enough time, it generally takes about three months to plan a successful reunion, which allows time for lost alumni to be found, invitations to be printed and to book a venue)
  • Invitations
  • Cost
  • Who takes RSVP's
