There are a number of steps involved in establishing an alumni Chapter or Group. The Alumni Office has a number of resources available to assist Alumni Volunteers who work with the Alumni Office to establish a Chapter or Group.

If you are interested, register as an Alumni Volunteer with the Alumni Office.

What is an Alumni Chapter

An Alumni chapter is a formal, organised association of alumni wishing to network with other QUT alumni for professional, industry, faculty, geographic or special interest purposes. An Alumni chapter needs to have, and to operate, according to a set of by-laws approved by QUT. These are overseen by a formal committee and by members who have been elected to official positions in that committee. The committee will be the body responsible for liaising with QUT Alumni staff, meeting QUT staff and assisting QUT from time to time.

An Alumni Chapter is required to:

  • Maintain a set of official Chapter By-laws
  • Have active officers and an active committee in accordance with the by-laws
  • Provide a delegate to represent the Chapter at any QUT Alumni leaders meeting
  • Maintain a viable membership base from the alumni population in the geographic, discipline or other specific interest area
  • Hold a minimum of two events per year to which all alumni eligible for membership of the Chapter are invited

What is a Group

An Alumni Group is an informal association of alumni who occasionally meet together for some specific purpose. Alumni Groups will probably have one or more key people who organise events, or liaise with QUT Alumni Office to assist with an event. An Alumni Group has no formal requirement, although increased participation can eventually lead to registration as an Alumni Club or Chapter. An Alumni Group will have neither a formal committee nor a core group of alumni, but rather, one or two alumni who will liaise with QUT Alumni staff.

Requirements of an Alumni Group:
  • Have a small group of alumni who organise events on behalf of the Group
  • Provide a delegate to represent the Group at the QUT Alumni leaders meeting (optional) all alumni eligible for membership of the Chapter are invited.
  • Form a membership base from the alumni population in the geographic, discipline or other specific interest area that has brought the Group together
  • Hold events as deemed necessary to meet the interests of the Group.
