QUT Alumni Singapore Chapter2006 President’s Message Download a pdf version of the President's Message Dear Graduates and Alumni For the past two years, after a very young and vibrant committee took over the reigns of the QUT Alumni Singapore Chapter, we have since then organized many different successful events. I was very fortunate to have led a group of extra-ordinary individuals that formed the committee, whom despite their very busy workload and schedule, never failed to surprise me with their energy in making things happened very positively. For the year of 2004/05, the chapter had organized Networking Party at Carnegies, where we had a fantastic night of fun and drinking with not only QUT graduates but with friends of QUT as well. 2004 is also the year of AUIAC in Hong Kong, this prestigious event not only see to it that we forged closer ties with other Australian Alumnus, we also created an unique community within the Australian Alumnus in Singapore. Our Chapter was also instrumental in helping to organize the Australia Alumni Singapore (AAS) Golden Jubilee Dinner, and the Golden Jubilee Book that was launched in March 2005. We also held a Career Seminar in the early part of the year. In the year of 05/06, we started off with an Engineering Seminar at Hilton Hotel. We were honored then to have Dean of Engineering personally addressing a crowd of close to 70 people on engineering challenges in the 21st Century. The Chapter also held its first Movie Event at Bugis Junction, to encourage more family interaction. We also held another seminar, “Convergence of Business ,IT and Engineering” at YWCA Fort Canning Lodge where this time around, we have the Dean of IT addressing to another crowd of 50 people. Some of the lesser events, of equal significance that we have been doing are extending our help at pre-departure briefings, both by International Students Services for QUT and Hui and Kuah. We have also participated in the graduation ceremonies in extending our help whenever possible. The Singapore Chapter could not have gone far without the Support of QUT Alumni Relations, as well as our sponsors. I would like to take this opportunity to represent the committee in thanking our sponsors, especially Hui and Kuah, for their generous support, Australia Migration Agency, Jim and Blue Bell People, Ivan Ng, who has been our silent sponsor of our IT needs. We also like to express our gratitude to AAS in co-opting our Chapter as her member. The next AGM has been fixed on 2nd July 2006. I would like to thank the outgoing committee for their hard work and commitment and I will encourage more QUT Graduates volunteers in coming forth to serve in the incoming committee. As we meet the new challenges of the upcoming year of 06/07 and 07/08, we will continue to strive to create a Community that solely belongs to you, and help to keep this community a platform for all QUT graduates to communicate and network. Yours Sincerely, Andy Tan QUT Alumni Singapore ChapterDownload a pdf version of information about the QUT Alumni Singapore Alumni Chapter The QUT Alumni Singapore Chapter is a non-profit organization that are made up entirely of graduates from QUT and the intent of the chapter is to create a network of contacts within Singapore and probably foster other chapters within the Asian region as well. It also acts as a rendezvous for QUT graduates who are living in Singapore, to keep in touch with the happenings of their alma mattar. The objects of the Alumni are:-
We organize events to help QUT Alumni (Singapore) members keep updated
with seminars which are conducted by industry leaders, recognized QUT Alumni
members or the staff of QUT. The intent of these events are to help graduates Fresh graduates from QUT can also enjoy our exclusive networking sessions. This is where members can get to meet these untapped talents, fresh out from their academic institution. This will facilitate with the opportunity for fresh graduates to land themselves with potential job offers, offered by their seniors. If this is not top of the agenda, it is still good fun to hang out with a crowd who can impart tacit knowledge of tactics to survive in the working world. This is where the birth of a mentor-mentee relationship could benefit the fresh graduates as seniors cultivate these gems into jewels. QUT periodically sends their staff up to Singapore to advise members on how to
write and "sell" themselves in a résumé. The staff will even go through the
trouble of checking graduates' résumé, to ensure that they do not miss out critical We have all experienced the community spirit which has bind and drove us through our studies in Australia... and now that we are back in Singapore, we don't see why that should stop... as we step into a new and more permanent phase of our lives. The Singapore Chapter has a team of committed volunteers who will deliver this
promise of our mission statement. We cordially invite all QUT graduates living in
Singapore to join us and bring the Spirit of Australia back to our homeland.
AS we are a non profit organization, this membership fee is used in our operations of the alumni activities, and in providing us in subsidizing the cost of the networking events and activities for our members. Message from the Chapter President - Andy Tan
Dear Members and Friends, Welcome to the QUT Alumni Singapore web page. "I miss Brisbane .. I really enjoyed myself there" and "I still prefer and miss the life as a student at QUT". These are just two of the most common remarks made by the QUT graduates during gatherings. Alongside our degrees, diplomas and expertise, we have also brought back many unforgettable plus vivid memories of QUT and Brisbane. Every now and then, we will get together and relive those beautiful moments again. What a joy it is! The Alumni knows how important networking is in our society. It can help businesses to grow, projects to run smoothly, sales to increase as well as broadening one's horizon. Who you know is just as important as what you know. Hence, the Alumni will serve as a networking channel that provides opportunities to interact and maintain contact with our fellow graduates and our parent university.
