QUT Alumni

QUT Alumni is a forum of QUT graduates, staff members , past and present Council members and other qualified members. Established under the Queensland University of Technology (QUT Alumni) Statute 2008, QUT Alumni is concerned primarily with the mutual benefit to be gained through the interaction of QUT with its graduates. QUT Alumni aims to represent the interests of QUT graduates through its influence in University decision making processes, including those concerned with learning, teaching and applied research.

Aim of the Alumni Board

Alumni Board operates as the executive and strategic management committee of QUT Alumni and facilitates ways that the alumni community can support the vision and goals of the University, in particular the fostering of an alumni culture within the University and the development of strategic links between commerce, industry, professions and the University through alumni for mutual benefit. The Board provides a leadership role in relation to community and alumni activities, and formulates and refines policy in this respect.

Terms of Reference

Alumni Board is a Council committee established in accordance with Council Procedure 1 - Committees . Alumni Board is accountable to Council for fulfilling the following terms of reference. Council has approved revised terms of reference for 2008-2012 Council term.

Terms of reference

Alumni Board performs the functions of QUT Alumni in terms of its aims and objectives.

Membership

Alumni Board will comprise of ten members as follows.

  • President of Alumni ex officio (Chairs Alumni Board and a member of QUT Council)
  • One member of QUT Council elected to Council by and from Alumni ex officio
  • Four members elected by and from Alumni
  • Three members of Alumni nominated by the Vice-Chancellor
  • Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development) or nominee

A nominee of the Registrar is secretary.

Relationships

On operational and administrative Alumni matters, Alumni Board makes recommendations to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development) and provides advice in relation to the fostering and maintenance of links with persons interested in the development of the University, regardless of whether they are a graduate of QUT. On strategic directions and practices of the University, Alumni Board makes recommendations, where appropriate, to Council.

Tenure and frequency of meeting

Terms of office are as detailed in section 3 of Council Procedure No.1 - Committees .

Alumni Board normally meets in the cycle of meetings leading up to Council meetings.

Reporting

Following each meeting, Alumni Board reports to the next meeting of Council.

The Board provides the annual general meeting of Alumni with a report of its activities, with particular reference to any recommendations made to Council.

Role of the Alumni Board

  • is the link between graduates, and through them industry, and the University decision-making processes

  • encourages greater cooperation between industry and QUT

  • is a forum for debate on policy and relevant issues

  • formulates and refines policy for submission to QUT Council

  • uses its representation on Council committees to ensure that graduate and professional viewpoints are expressed

  • has input into academic standards and content

  • protects the interests of QUT graduates

  • encourages social contact between graduates across the professions.
